David Owen is a writer, musician, theatre director, manager, career and employment coach, facilitator, and college and university instructor with a PhD in Theatre Studies from York University, an MFA in Directing, and a MA in Dramatic Theory. David is a Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) and member of Career Professionals of Canada (CPC) and Career Professionals Association of Alberta (CDAA). He is a scholar, award-winning playwright, director, gamer, and past member of the Playwright’s Guild of Canada (PGC).
He is the author of _Player and Avatar: The Affective Potential of Videogames_ published by McFarland and editor of two anthologies, _Long Live the New Flesh: Six Plays from the Digital Frontier_ and _Digital Performance in Canada_ both for Playwrights Canada Press. His research focuses on the intersection of performance and videogames.
Some directing credits are: _A Midsummer Night’s Dream_ (Red Deer), _What Lies Before Us_ (Edmonton), _Love, Virtually_ (Toronto), _Don Juan in Chicago_ (Calgary), _Lawrence and Holloman_ (Edmonton), and _Doctor Faustus_ (Lethbridge). As a playwright, he is best known for non-linear short pieces and his most often produced one act comedies _Excess Unwanted Growth_ and _Hang-Gliding over the Abyss_. He currently lives in Edmonton.
