Frantic and Interesting

Suddenly everything is so frantic and interesting!

I am seeing Brendan Perry (from Dead Can Dance) and Robin Guthrie (from The Cocteau Twins) tonight! I have a to-do list a mile long with leads I got from the CATR conference as well as work I put aside (a nice way to say it, “put aside”) until after the conference. It doesn’t rain but it pours.

Two thoughts I want to leave you with, intrepid reader:

  1. I had a spark of inspiration in Fredericton for a new play (not that I lack for ideas for plays – just the follow through!).  It helped me to hear Catherine Banks (who is awesome) say she learned a long time ago not to share unfinished work.  This is a lesson I have been learning the hard way the last few years (hence the pile of unfinished plays!) so I will only share with you the working title, “Quality Assurance.” Yes, it has something to do with game developers.
  2. Of the several books I picked up at the conference, one in particular, Reality is Broken, is fantastic.  I highly recommend it.  I will not only make you feel better about playing Bejewelled on the subway (or entire nights playing WOW) but also make you look at your work environment and leisure time in a whole new light.  I’m only halfway through and it is great.  I am hoping it might be the first book we discuss in our new book club called BLAM-O!

Am I a bad game scholar because I haven’t played LA Noir yet?

Am I a bad theatre scholar because I (sometimes. J ) get more excited about concerts?

Am I totally off-base that I enjoyed Paranormal Activity 2 because of how they incorporated the first movies INTO the timeline of the second instead of doing a “10 years later” trope?

Are you awesome for reading my blog to the end?  (This one’s easy – you totally are.)

Until next,

DAve
